Tekari is about 30 km north-west of Gaya. From Patna the truck takes the Patna-Gaya road through Jehanabad and turns west before Gaya, a drive of around three hours. The last stretch passes through villages on a narrower road, so it is taken slowly.
Tekari was the seat of one of Bihar's largest zamindari estates, and the town still has the remains of the Raj fort and several grand old houses.
